What to Expect
If you have never experienced massage therapy before, then you are truly in for a treat! Put the world away for an hour or two and focus on you- relax and enjoy!
Below are some key points to help in making your massage therapy a great experience.
Book your appointment in advance when possible and review the menu of services offered to get an idea of what you would like to accomplish in your massage sessions.
Drink adequate amounts of water on the day of your massage as well-hydrated muscles and tissues relax more readily and thoroughly. You may want to visit the restroom before your massage session begins. Dress comfortably and turn off the cell phone if you possibly can.
After an initial assessment with the therapist, you will be left alone in the massage room to undress and get onto the massage therapy table. Please undress to your level of comfort! Only the body parts receiving massage therapy will beuncovered during the session; all other body areas will be draped/covered. Some massage varieties like Acupressure, Reflexology and Chair Massage have the client dressed in loose-fitting clothing, such as shorts and sports/tank top. Every massage therapist has their favorite routine and we will discuss the various lying positions and take the best course of action.
There is no substitute for communication! You and your massage therapist should talk about the use of varying pressure during your massage session. If something hurts a little bit, let your therapist know whether it feels like a "good" or therapeutic-seeming discomfort or a really sharp pain. Feel free to ask questions and request specific sorts of techniques as the therapist works.
At the end of your session, the therapist will leave the room allowing you time to get up slowly from the table. Massage Therapy can make a person feel "light-headed" or "giddy"; this feeling is normal. Do not hurry, take your time and if you feel you need a moment after you are dressed, your therapist should have a place where you can sit quietly before leaving.
To your health and wellness!
